The diplomatic relations between the Government of Japan and the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela have been close since its establishment on August 19, 1938. These relations are fundamentally in the area of cooperation, to further consolidate the economic, political and cultural bonds.

Within the International Cooperation Framework, Japan constitutes a region of strategic importance for Venezuela, particularly in the economic, commercial, scientific, technological, environmental and infrastructure that represent priorities for initiatives to develop joint projects. Therefore it is considered crucial to encourage bilateral relations between Japan and Venezuela in order to achieve enough dynamism, especially in the economic area.

Considering that Venezuelan Foreign policies are centered upon the creation of a productive model capable of generating self-sustaining development, promoting diversification of products and hence achieving higher levels of competitiveness, Japan represents for Venezuelan government a country that might contribute significantly to Venezuela's Development. By adding value to national raw materials, creating strategic alliances and fostering opportunities, Japan and Venezuela can cooperate further in areas such as cultural exchange and economics allowing Venezuela to achieve its objectives towards development within the Bilateral Cooperation policies.
